Glossary of Terms
Many students today fund a portion of their college expenses through scholarships given by private agencies, civic groups, companies, and other independent organizations. When the Office of Financial Aid receives information about such outside scholarships, it is posted online. Several good Internet search engines can also help students identify scholarship opportunities.

•With more than $3 billion in scholarships, the FastWeb scholarship search is the largest, most accurate and most frequently updated scholarship database. If you supply an email address, they will notify you when new awards that match your profile are added to the database.
•Other large scholarship databases are available on the FinAid! web site.

Graduate Fellowships in the Physical Schiences
National Physical Science Consortium
- NPSC identifies tomorrow's most promising scientists and matches them with employer sponsors who support their doctoral training.
- Each fellowship is worth up to $200,000 depending on the university a Fellow attends.
- Top U.S. agencies, companies and laboratories as well as more than 100 public and private universities participate in the program.
- Fellowships are open to all eligible students with emphasis on recruiting historically underrepresented minority and women students in the physical sciences and related engineering fields.
Ohio Board of Regents Graduate/Professional Fellowship Program
For students interested in attending an Ohio institution of higher education for graduate or professional study.
- Selection of nominees is made on teh basis of the applicants undergraduate GPA, graduate or professional examination scores and percentile ranking, application for graduate study at an Ohio institution of higher education, written essay, letters of recommendation and campus based review committee interview.

The Point Foundation LGBT Scholarships
- There are numerous scholarship opportunities for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) students. The Point Foundation provides financial support, mentoring and hope to meritorious students who are marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity.

This scholarship is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences.
To qualify, candidates must be:
- African American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian

- a full-time student at an accredited college or university

Grants ranging from $750 to $1500 will be awarded to students of Law, Medicine and Communications. Students must be Ohio residents of Polish ancestry.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority - Iota Phi Omega Chapter
Will be awarding two award of $750 each for high school students who are college bound or students who are currently attending a college or university.
- Minimum cumulative GPA is 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Provide a copy of the latest transcript
- Letter of admission (if a High School Senior)
- Letter of recommendation from your school counselor, current teacher or officer of cummunity service organization
- Demonstrate involvement in activities outside of academics
