Policies: Housing/Dining
Co-op Charges
If you dine or reside in a co-op, Oberlin College will not charge you for the service provided by the co-op. You will pay the co-op directly. No adjustment is made to the financial aid of students who live and/or dine in co-ops.Single/Village Rooms
Single and Village rooms cost more than multi-occupancy rooms. Financial aid will not increase if you live in a single or Village room.Off-Campus Housing
If you choose to live off-campus, your eligibility for financial aid will be decreased by $750. If you qualify for need-based assistance from Oberlin, the $750 will be deducted from your need-based aid. This change is based on the general difference in the costs for on- and off-campus housing.Students who live off campus will break even with the costs of on-campus, multi-occupancy residence if they can rent and pay utilities for approximately $350 per month (based on a nine-month enrollment period).
If the total amount of financial aid credits and payments to your account is greater than the amount you are billed, you may use the excess financial aid to help with your off-campus living expenses. You should request a refund of this excess financial aid from the Office of Student Accounts in accordance with the College refund policy.
A downloadable Off-Campus Cost Estimator worksheet is available to help you understand how off-campus living would affect your finances. You may also contact the Office of Financial Aid to obtain a paper copy of this worksheet.
Meal Plans
Financial aid will not be affected by your choice of meal plan.
