Changing Times: The Romantic Transition to Adulthood

The romantic transition during adolescence has changed greatly.  Presently, adolescents are faced with concerns such as sexually transmitted diseases, premarital sex, and searching for a marriage partner.  This web site hopes to inform educators and professionals that these concerns affect all adolescents regardless of gender, race, religion, and culture.

What is the Romantic
Transition?

Romantic love is the intense feelings and sexual thoughts that are directed towards an individual and the set of beliefs that come with it (1).

The Romantic Transition Includes:

  • How we acquire intense feelings and sexual thoughts
  • Where our beliefs come from
  • How we make choices about the person whom we direct this romantic love towards
  • Who is the major influence
  • The way sexuality is viewed in our society plays a role, as well as our parents and peers
