Kirk Ormand
Classicist and Project Manager

Will Lecture For Food

Courses This Semester: None

I am on leave during the 2007-08 academic year.

For previous courses go to this page.

Welcome to Kirk's Home Page. I teach Classics at Oberlin College , home of the Martin lectures and located conveniently close to the Lorain County Regional Airport. My life history is best described as "checkered," or perhaps, "curious," and includes 4-year stint as a project manager installing software at large medical corporations. (Who says a classics Ph.D. isn't good for anything?)

I am currently the administrator for the John J. Winkler Memorial Prize in classics. Click on the link for more information.

Academic interests include Feminist Theory, Greek Tragedy, Epic, Buddy Movies, Queer Theory, Plague Narratives, and various aspects of women's lives in ancient Greece and Rome.

Non-Academic interests include: our kids (Kevin and Ellie), food, backpacking, scuba diving, breaking small appliances, Clint Eastwood, and writing letters of complaint to large, impersonal corporations. I also have a rare talent for self-inflicted injury.

A few links of interest to Classicists:

A few links that are useful for maintaining sanity:

  • Jon Carroll of the San Francisco Chronicle. I suggest reading Jon's column each and every week day.
  • The Dilbert Zone. Trendy, probably passe. But a must for Project Managers.
