Garden Banks Petroleum Seep

The Garden Banks petroleum seep (lease block 425) supports a chemosynthetic community of bacterial mats and chemosynthetic clams. The seeps become oases for other macrofauna such as sea stars, fish, and crabs. This seep occurs at 570m.

SSETI deployed four replicate sets of experiments at this seep in 1993. Poles were collected in 1995 and 2001.
