Kathleen Chastain

Clinical Assistant Professor of Flute, Chamber Music and Professional Development for the Freelance Artist

Kathleen Chastain, French and American flutist, has appeared in solo and recital performances in the United States, Europe, South
America and Asia. Ms. Chastain has performed as soloist with chamber orchestras of Toulouse, France, Paris Chamber Orchestra and Versailles Chamber Orchestra, among others, as guest principal flutist with the Orchestre de Paris under the direction of Daniel Barenboim, the St. Bart’s Festival Orchestra and the Orchestre de L’Ile de France. She has appeared at prestigious music festivals of the world, including Curitiba, Brazil, St. Bart’s Music Festival in the French West Indies and the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland.

An enthusiastic contemporary music performer, Kathleen Chastain commissioned works by Tom Lopez and recorded works by Elliott Carter, Noel Lee and David Felder.

Ms. Chastain is currently teaching flute, chamber music, pedagogy, and Professional Development for the Freelance Artist at the Oberlin Conservatory. She has been on the faculties of the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, University of North Texas and Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory.

Kathleen Chastain has recorded with Virgin, EMI, La Flute Traversière, Arion and Skarbo. Her CD with French pianist Laurent Boukobza, Flute Panorama #7, was reviewed in the AMERICAN RECORD GUIDE November/December 2003. “Kathleen Chastain sounds characteristically warm and charismatic. At the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur, Ms. Chastain received her Prize in the class of Jean-Pierre Rampal. She also studied with the famous French flutist Michel Debost.

Kathleen Chastain has appeared on the FR3 television station in Paris as well as France Culture radio station and WCLV in Cleveland, Ohio.
