Rescue Cases – Trial of Langston.
FOURTEENTH DAY – AFTERNOON SESSION.
Judge Bliss continued his argument for the prosecution, reviewing the testimony in the case, and claiming that it was clearly proven that Langston was an active participant in the alleged rescue. The argument was generally well conducted and temperate, but at times the Counsel indulged in flings at Oberlin, its people, and its doctrines. Judge Bliss closed shortly after four oÕclock.
Judge Willson then gave his charge to the jury. [The charge will be found on the first page.][1]
The Jury were out about half an hour, and then returned with a verdict of Guilty.
[1] The verdict of Òguilty,Ó which is mentioned in the article entitled The Arrogance of Judicial Power.
