Uriah Thompson

Born in Vermont in 1814, Uriah Thompson moved to the city of Oberlin in 1840. Active in both the town and college, Thompson was named in 1850 as a trustee of Oberlin College, a post he would serve for the next forty years. Thompson's role as a trustee involved him with much of the financial conerns of the college. In addition to his service for Oberlin College, Uriah Thompson, along with others, became the supporters of the new Second Congregational Church after breaking away from Oberlin's more traditional religious community. Thompson became mayor of Oberlin in 1852 and served for one year. He died on September 5th, 1880.
