Lewis Holtslander


Deacon Lewis Holtslander was born in 1797, and was born again in 1820, during the Second Great Awakening. Holtslander moved to Oberlin from New York in 1836 and pursued a career in business. He also held offices in Oberlin's First Church. Mayor of Oberlin in 1847 and 1848, Holtlander took important roles in the village of Oberlin until his death. Lewis Holtlander died on August 9, 1861, only a few short months after the outbreak of the Civil War.
