The course requires about 20 pages of written work. Normally, this means 2 ten-page papers on topics of your own choice. Everyone should submit a paper at Fall Break. Some topics will be provided from time to time in class.

A fourth hour of credit can be earned by doing some additional reading, writing about a five-page paper, and then having a conference with the instructor to discuss the reading and paper. Subject and scope of the 4th hour project should be discussed with the instructor. ALL 4th hour work--reading, paper, and conference--must be completed no later than Tuesday, December 2. If requirements are not met by this date, you won't get a 4th hour of credit.

Each student is allowed three authorized absences during the term; beyond this figure, there may be a grade penalty.
