Michael
Margolis (Ph.D., University of Wyoming, 2000) earned his Ph.D.
in economics from the University of Wyoming, where he assisted
in research on nonmarket valuation and auction mechanisms. He
taught for two years at Bates College while completing his dissertation,
which advanced the welfare analysis of trade in goods produced
from natural resources without clear owners. He then returned
to Wyoming for a year of empirical research into demand for
food safety and the sale of timber rights. As a Fellow at Resources
for the Future, he is continuing his research into trade and
the environment, especially trade between rich and poor nations.
This includes empirical investigations related to his dissertation
theory, more work on food safety standards, and the analysis
of trade as a vector for invasive species.
