Jonathan Lipow

Jonathan Lipow (Ph.D., UC Berkeley, 1994) teaches introductory economics courses, as well as courses in microeconomics and public economics. His research interests are primarily in public economics and in national security studies, and he has published papers on these topics in journals such the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Economics Letters, Defense and Peace Economics, and World Development. His current research focuses primarily on privatization and military manpower problems.
Prior to Oberlin, Dr. Lipow taught at a number of colleges and universities, including Berea College, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the Academic College of Judea and Samaria. Dr. Lipow has also accumulated a considerable amount of experience in public service, journalism, and business. He has worked as a consultant to Israel's Ministry of Defense, served as Bank of America's Israel country representative, and written extensively as a commentator on economic affairs for newspapers such as Globes, the Jerusalem Post, and Barrons. Currently, he is a partner is one of Israel's leading portfolio management firms, and he manages a small hedge fund that is listed on the Irish Stock Exchange.
