David L. Cleeton (Ph.D., 1980, Washington University-Saint Louis), Associate Provost and Professor, teaches international business, financial economics, the economics of organization, and European economic integration. Noteworthy research publications include, “Equilibrium Conditions for Efficient Rent Seeking: The Nash-Cournot Solution” in Efficient Rent Seeking: The intellectual History of a Nasty Problem, Alan Lockard and Gordon Tullock (editors), Kluwer Academic Publishers, (2000); “Economic and Monetary Union is Off on the Right Foot,” Brown Journal of World Affairs (1999); “the Evolution Toward Monetary Union in Europe,” Durell Journal of Money and Banking (1996); “Risk Aversion, and the Demand for Insurance,” Southern Economic Journal (1993); Study Guide to accompany Principles of Economics: An Analytical Approach, West Publishing (1993); and “What Does the Consumer Price Index for Prescription Drugs Really Measure?,” Health Care Financing Review (1992). Professor Cleeton has recently produced two online publications: International Business WebQuester, Dushkin/McGraw-Hill and the study guide for Investments by Jack Francis Clark and Roger Ibbotson, Prentice-Hall (2001). The texbook Financial Economics, coauthored with Zvi Bodie and Robert C. Merton is forthcoming from Prentice-Hall.
Current research interests include monetary union and tax issues within the European Union. In addition to his academic duties, Professor Cleeton has served as the European Union correspondent for Tax Notes International and the author of the weekly update for the international business section of McGraw-Hill’s PowerWeb.
