We
Recycle
The
Oberlin Technology Store can recycle used alkaline and
lithium batteries from your electronic devices (laptop,
cell phone, camera, etc, no car batteries) and
empty ink cartridges (no laser toner cartridges).
Bring these items to Mudd Level A, and we'll recycle them
in an environmentally sound manner.
We also
now take old computers and other electronic equipment.
You must wipe your own hard drive of all personal data
before bringing it to the Tech Store or the Help Desk,
Level A Mudd.

MPC files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
MPC Corporation, which purchased the Gateway business and education
division in 2007, filed for bankruptcy in November 2008.*
For some time, we have had major problems getting
repairs and parts from MPC for Gateway computers purchased from the
Oberlin Technology Store by the College as well as by students, faculty
and staff. With this latest news, it is clear the problems will not
be resolved.
Because we cannot get parts, we are unable to perform
repairs on any Gateway computers, either laptops or desktops, personally
or institutionally owned. We can no longer accept these machines at
the Help Desk. The Technical Services Center in the Academic Commons
can still assist with software problems and in diagnosing hardware
issues, but will not have access to parts for repairs.
We are able to provide batteries and power
adapters through the Technology Store.

We understand and deeply regret the difficulties this
may cause our customers.
* Please note that the Gateway brand name and separate
consumer division were purchased by Acer. Gateway-branded machines
you see in Best Buy, etc, are a different product.
If you don't see a product at our Store, we may be able to order it for you, or you can check our online vendors (see links at left). In-store pricing is generally best!
