The deadline has been extended to November 15 at midnight.
The Entrepreneurship Scholars is an intensive winter term program designed to provide exceptionally creative and motivated Oberlin students with a dynamic environment in which to explore and develop their ideas. The program supports students with a wide variety of ambitions, including starting a grassroots organization, offering a new product or service, launching a tour, commercializing a discovery, and more.
The January 2010 Entrepreneurship Scholars program will take place in San Francisco, Cleveland, and Oberlin, and will include 15-20 talks by leading entrepreneurial alumni and friends of the college, intensive skills building workshops, peer collaboration, and individual venture development challenges. The program also allocates time for students to work on their specific projects.
By participating in the Entrepreneurship Scholars Program, students will:
• Engage with the challenges of realizing their ideas through hands-on workshops, case studies, lectures, and a targeted shadow day;
• Gain familiarity with the issues entrepreneurs encounter in planning, financing, and launching a venture;
• Explore and refine their original concepts through conversations with peers, advisors, and lecturers;
• Become acquainted with a network of alumni and other professionals who can provide feedback and guidance on their ideas;
• Make concrete steps toward realizing their creative ideas.

The Entrepreneurship Scholars Program takes place in multiple locations throughout winter term.
January 10-16, 2010
Scholars spend the week in San Francisco engaging with entrepreneurial leaders from a wide array of sectors. This seminar week features 12-15 talks on a variety of topics related to entrepreneurship, an individual shadow day with a professional relevant to each scholar, group discussion, and an alumni networking reception.
January 17-24, 2010
Scholars work on their own projects independently in the location of their choice. Activities during this time might include (but are not limited to) research, implementing a project, or an extended shadow experience. Scholars will also consult with a mentor of their choosing during this time.
January 25-29, 2010
Scholars return to Oberlin for a week of intensive skills building workshops, events in Cleveland, and final presentations. Workshops will include business planning for social and for-profit ventures, presentation skills, market positioning, and more. Scholars will deliver their final presentations to an audience of peers, faculty, administrators, and leaders in Northeast Ohio. |
- Most meals from January 10-15 and 25-29;
