"How Do I get Consent & Register for MUSIC THEORY & AURAL SKILLS?"
*New students should visit the Theory/Aural Skills section of the Conservatory New Student Orientation page or visit the Kohl Jazz Building, Room 309. All students are required to take a placement test during their audition, orientation, or prior to being placed in Theory or Aural Skills.

1. Consent is required for Conservatory & Double Degree students wishing to register or add/drop Music Theory/Intensive Music Theory or Aural Skills level I in the fall.
2. All Music Theory & Aural Skills courses above level I DO NOT require consent during pre-registration in November or April. Please register during your assigned window.
3. All Music Theory & Aural Skills classes will revert to consent during the add/drop period (1st 10 days of class). Register now to avoid being tacked on the end of a long waitlist.
4. Upper Division Music Theory courses (courses beyond 202/203) are no longer consent courses. Please check the on-line course catalog for notes and prerequisites pertaining to these classes before you register. The registrar's Schedule of Classes will list the days/time/instructor/limit for each course.
5. If you are unable to register for a Theory or Aural Skills course because a section is full, you can put your name on a watlist in the Kohl Jazz Building, Room 309.
6. Attention Arts & Sciences Students: Arts & Sciences students must request consent for all Music Theory & Aural Skills courses. Permission to register will not be given until all Conservatory and Musical Studies Majors have been accommodated. Please put your name on a waitlist in the Kohl Jazz Building, Room 309 or e-mail Jeanne Rosecrans if you have further questions.
7. Attention Performance Diploma Students (PDIP): PDIP students should NOT register for theory, aural skills, or music history. Special permission for some PDIP students may be granted by submitting an approval form for these courses available in the Office of the Associate Deans, Bibbins 113. Please submit the semester prior to your registration to avoid long wait-lists.

Career Resources: Gig Referral Service
The Gig Referral Service aims to provide Oberlin students with freelance performance opportunities, as well as a chance to help students develop professional and career skills. The office facilitates the hiring of talented student musicians by allowing clients to post information about performance opportunities through the office. The service also aims to provide community members with quality musicians at a competitive cost. Typical gig opportunities arranged through the office include weddings or receptions, corporate functions, and “atmosphere” entertainment. The Gig Referral Service does not post full time job openings or coordinate private lessons. Students who are interested in participating should visit Robertson 129, questions can be directed to gigs@oberlin.edu.
