The
Oberlin Conservatory of Music is pleased to announce the Oberlin Trumpet
Institute. The Institute is designed for high school,
college, professional, and amateur trumpet players and teachers who
wish to invest intensive time in trumpet fundamentals, solo trumpet
playing, and pedagogical skills.
The
ten-day workshop will feature daily master classes, private lessons,
performance classes, and recitals. The daily program is designed to
be sufficiently flexible to accommodate the interests of the individual
participants.
Each
day will begin with a group warm-up that will include the lip buzzing
and mouthpiece concepts
made famous by the late James Stamp and will continue on to include
embouchure training that can be included in a trumpet warm-up routine.
There
will be a daily European-style master class given by Roy Poper and/or
Arto Hoornweg that will cover specific technical and musical issues,
followed
by participant performances and coaching by the instructors.
Participants
will have ample opportunity for practice, individual and group
coachings,
and those who wish may participate in recitals.
James Howsmon, Professor of Collaborative Piano at the Oberlin
Conservatory, will be available to play for master classes
and performances.
Participants
are encouraged to contact Professor
Poper in advance of
the Institute to discuss repertoire and any other questions they
may have.
