“The whole trip was really quite an adventure; between the competition, the concerts, master classes, private lessons, and the opportunity to meet fellow pianists from around the world, there was always something exciting to do.Thank you again for a great experience.”

Oberlin International Piano Competition and Festival

COMPETITION: JULY 26 – AUGUST 3, 2008
FESTIVAL: JULY 30 – AUGUST 3, 2008

MESSIAEN and the FRENCH TRADITION

Yuqing Meng, from New Jersey – The First Prize Winner of Oberlin International Piano Competition and Festival '07, Concerto Performance with the National Opera and Ballet Symphony Orchestra of China at Forbidden City Concert Hall, Beijing, China.

Yuqing's concert was broadcast on China National Radio.

The Competition provides a platform for talented high-school aged pianists to broaden their experience, gain exposure, and compete for three cash prizes. Conducted over the course of the week, the competition creates a collegial environment among participants. All participants are invited to attend the concurrent festival events. Competition rules can be found on the competition page.

The Festival provides all participants with an intensive, in-depth opportunity to expand their knowledge of music history, theory and pedagogy—as well as its vital connection to onstage performance as related to this year's theme: "Messiaen and the French Tradition." Lectures, master classes, and recitals are given by Oberlin Conservatory faculty members and distinguished guest artists. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to take lessons from Oberlin Conservatory faculty members should they choose to do so.

The competition finals will be broadcast live on WCLV-FM 104.9 Classical Radio Member of the Alink-Argerich Foundation
