SINGERS

Opera Division – Advanced singers who are assigned roles in the opera. The opera, Puccini’s La Rondine, (with orchestra) will be double cast and performed in the regional theaters of Cortona and San Sepolcro. Each cast will sing two performances. The opera will be conducted by Bridget-Michaele Reischl and staged by Edward Crafts. The Opera Chorus will work closely with both maestri and will also participate in the master classes for the Opera Studio.

Concert Group Division – Eight advanced singers will present a program of Italian arias and small ensembles in at least four venues in the Tuscany region.

Opera Studio Division
– Students will be cast in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi. Casting will be done at the time of the auditions. This division will have a masterclass each week.

All Singers will receive the following:

  • 17 hours of Italian per week (4 weeks for 5 Oberlin Credits)
  • Four 45-minute voice lessons
  • Four 45-minute coachings with the Italian maestri

Singers will be chosen by audition to perform on various master classes.

INSTRUMENTALISTS

Players are encouraged to come in pre-formed groups, but if that is not possible, they will be placed in groups. June 6-24 will be dedicated exclusively to intensive chamber music lessons and concerts in Arezzo and surrounding communities.

Intrumentalists will:

  • Receive regular ensemble coachings for (2 Oberlin credits)
  • Perform in one or more of at least four chamber music concerts in Arezzo and its environs
  • Provide the orchestra for the four performances of La Rondine in two regional theaters for a program scholarship honorarium
  • Attend weekly master classes by the chamber music faculty
  • Receive 17 hours of Italian per week (4 weeks for 5 Oberlin Credits)

ACCOMPANIST APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Three accompanist positions are available to experienced pianists in the accompaniment/chamber music program who will be assigned to one of three divisions - opera, opera studio, and chamber music/concert group.

Accompanist's language course fee and housing will be covered by the program.

Pianists will:

  • Receive regular coachings in accompaniment and chamber music for (2 Oberlin credits)
  • Perform in concerts in Arezzo and its environs
  • Attend weekly master classes by the chamber music and vocal faculties
  • Receive 17 hours of Italian per week (4 weeks for 5 Oberlin Credits)

Theater Production

An intensive program in production technology and preparation and Italian language study. Theatre production studies will be led by Scott Skiba. Students in the following areas of study will be accepted:

  • Carpentry
  • Props
  • Scenic Painting
  • Costumes
  • Lighting
  • Wigs and Makeup
  • Stage Management

Theatre Production students will:

  • Receive instruction in preparing all the production technical aspects of 4 staged performances of Puccini’s La Rondine in two regional theatres and 1 staged performance of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi in a third venue (2 Oberlin credits)
  • Receive 17 hours of Italian per week (4 weeks for 5 Oberlin Credits)

LANGUAGE STUDENTS

Language Students will:

  • Receive 17 hours of Italian per week (4 weeks for 5 Oberlin Credits)
  • Attend the activities of the chamber music program, operas and opera studio
