The competition
is open to students who were born before July 26, 1995 and after August
3, 1989 (ages 13 through 18).
Each competitor must offer
40 minutes of repertoire that includes:
- One complete classical sonata
- One of the lyrical pieces listed in the Repertoire Details
- Works of the competitor's choice
- One movement of the concerti listed in the Repertoire Details
The competition will consist of FIVE ROUNDS:
- Audition Round - CD required except for those auditioning live in China (12-15 minutes)
- First Live Round in Oberlin (20 minutes)
- Second Live Round in Oberlin (15 minutes)
- Concerto Round for finalists
- Finals (about 30 minutes)
Winners will be awarded cash prizes as follows:
- First prize: $10,000 and orchestral engagements in Beijing and
Shanghai, China
- Second Prize $4000
- Third Prize $1500
- Fourth Prize $1000
- Fifth Prize $500
- Sixth Prize $200
- Audience Prize $100
Competitors are encouraged to participate in all festival events. Master class
participation will be considered based on the preliminary round CDs. Private
lessons are not included in the competitor's tuition rate. Competitors
may sign-up for lessons in Oberlin. The fee per 50-minute lesson is $70, made
payable directly to the faculty member.
