Last October Michael Lynn traveled to Taiwan on a junket organized by Brandon Adrien '90 and his wife, Cher Wang, a former student of Lynn. "Brad's wife Cher is one of the main recorder people in Taiwan," says Lynn. "Brad is an oboist who studied with Jimmy [Professor of Oboe James Caldwell]. He's also a 'techie/early music person.'" The couple lives in Kaohsiung, and has what Lynn calls "an early music dynasty" going on in Taiwan. They invited Lynn to perform with their group and teach some master classes to their private students. "The quality was incredibly high," says Lynn. "I could actually recognize my own teaching in these kids because it had come through Cher, who I had taught. It felt like there was this strong Oberlin thing going on." In June, Lynn and Alison Melville, assistant professor of recorder, will play recorder and traverso with the Boston Early Music Festival's Lully Opera Orchestra for performances of Thésée at Boston's Copley Theater. The production will be be staged at Tanglewood later this summer.
