Almita Vamos
Professor of Violin
Education:
B.S., The Juilliard School, 1960; M.A., Western Illinois
Universty, 1975. Violin study with Mischa Mischakoff and
Lous Persinger, and coachings with William Lincer, Nadia
Reisenberg, Arthur Balsam, and Joseph Fuchs.
Awards and Prizes:
Six time recipient of the Presidential Excellence in
Teaching Award. Winner, Concert Artist Guild Award. Received
Distinguished Teachers Award from the American String
Teachers Association, National Endowment for the Arts, Ohio
Live and Ohio String Teachers. Students have won gold and
silver medals in Tchaikowsky Junior and Senior Competition,
Henry Szeryng, Carl Flesch and many other international
competitions.
Performances:
Soloist with the Juilliard, Mexico City, Columbus,
Taipei City, Suwon Symphony orchestras. Lecturer, First
Violin Congress and ASTA national conventions.
Professional Affiliations:
Former faculty member, Western Illinois University,
University of Minnesota. Faculty member, Music Center of the
North Shore. Co-founder, Weathersfield Music Festival.
