Education:
B.S. (education), West Chester State University; School of the Lyric Opera of Chicago; Professional Opera Training Program, Academy of Vocal Arts (Philadelphia);

Performances:
Critically acclaimed bass-baritone during a 27-year tenure as soloist with the Metropolitan Opera; sang more than 600 performances of 50 leading and supporting roles since company debut in 1979. Diverse repertoire inclues La Bohème, Don Giovanni, Aida, Lucia di Lammermoor, The Barber of Seville, La Cenerentola, Giulio Cesare, La Fanciulla del West, Don Carlo, Die Meistersinger, Simone Boccanegra, Carmen, La Clemenza di Tito, and many more. Performances in most major houses nationally and internationally.

Recordings:
Recordings include Beethoven’s Choral Fantasty for Telarc with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Seiji Ozawa; La Traviata for Deutsche Grammophon with the Metropolitan Opera Orchsetra under James Levine; and Salomé for Sony Classical with the Berlin Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta.

Broadcasts:
Appeared in numerous BBC-TV and “Live from the Met” PBS telecasts, including performances in La Traviata; Don Carlo and Un Ballo in Maschera with Luciano Pavarotti; Manon Lescaut and La Fanciulla del West with Placido Domingo; plus The Queen of Spades, Comte Ory, and Arabella.

Adjunct Professor of Voice, Lehigh University (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania); master classes in Berlin, New York City, and Pennsylvania; private lessons.
