Pauline Oliveros
Professor of Composition

In March 1999, professor of composition Pauline Oliveros received the SEAMUS99 Award for Lifetime Achievement. (SEAMUS is the acronym for the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States, and recipients are recognized for quality and artistic production.)

When Oliveros was unable to accept the award in person because she was recording in the King's Tomb in the Great Pryamid, Oliveros asked her former student Brenda Hutchinson to accept the award in her absence. On April 14, Hutchinson presented the award to Oliveros at Oberlin, when, as guest artist, she worked with Composition Seminar students who performed her piece, How Do You Get to Carnegie Hall? (for five pianos and DC players).
