It is, first and foremost, a medium of musical communication. Whether in English or a foreign language, the singer's job is to present each word and phrase to the audience with total understanding of the implications words convey. The challenge in coaching opera is to suggest ways for singers to convey verbal resonances while still singing in a stylistic and beautiful way.
