Alison Melville
Assistant Professor of Recorder
Education:
University of Toronto, 1977, B.M.; M.M., 1983. Also studied at Schola
Cantorum Basiliensis, Basel, Switzerland 1977-1980.
Performance Experience:
A member of the Toronto Consort; frequent appearances with
the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra; Soloist with the Toronto
Symphony, Sinfonia Mississauga, Orchestra London Canada and
various other orchestras; played on the soundtrack of Atom
Egoyan's award-winning film The Sweet Hereafter ; a
program of Scandinavian and Scottish traditional music for
the 1997 Northern Encounters Festival; participation in
Sound steam's Canadian debut performance of Living
Toys by English composer Thomas Ades.
Professional Affiliations:
Prior to Melville's appointment to the Oberlin Conservatory,
she was previously on faculty at the Glenn Gould
Professional School, the Royal Conservatory of Music, and
the University of Toronto.
Recordings:
Miss Melville is a soloist on the Juno Award-winning
recording of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos with the
Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra appearing on the Sony Label.
She has also recorded for ebs, Sony Vivarte, Narada, Ibs,
Dorian and SRI labels.
