Richard Hawkins
Associate Professor of Clarinet
Education:

Clarinet Faculty, Depaul University, 2000-2001; University of Southern
California, 1998 (Sabbatical Replacement for Yehuda Gilad); Clarinet Instructor,
Interlochen Arts Camp 1989-1994; Interlochen Arts Academy, 1993-2001.
Bio:
In 1992, Mr. Hawkins made his American Solo Debut in the Kennedy
Center with Mstislav Rostropovich and the National Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Hawkins served as principal clarinet of the Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra
for five seasons and is an active contemporary, chamber, and orchestral
musician. He previously served on the faculties of the Interlochen Arts
Academy from 1993-2001 and Depaul University in 2000-2001. Since 1997,
Mr. Hawkins has been a Mentor Musician at the Hot Springs Music Festival
each June in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Beginning in 1989 he has been a sought
after craftsman and maker of custom clarinet and saxophone mouthpieces.
Mr. Hawkins is also an artist representative, clinician and woodwind design
consultant with the G. Leblanc Corporation.
Performances:
Solo performances with the National Symphony Orchestra, Kennedy Center
Opera Orchestra, Columbia Philharmonic of Bogota, Pennsylvania Ballet
Orchestra, and Pensacola Symphony, among others. Ensemble performances
and masterclasses throughout the U.S. and Central America.
