B.A. in Music, Humboldt State University (1990); M.A. in Music Theory,
University of Oregon (1994); Ph.D. in Music Theory, University of Oregon
(1999).
Professional Affiliations:
Instructor, Institute for Preparatory Music Studies, Humboldt State
University (1985-90); Graduate Teaching Fellow, University of Oregon (1991-98);
Visiting Instructor, Oberlin College (1998-99); Visiting Assistant Professor,
Oberlin College (1999-2001). Member of the Society for Music Theory, the
American Musicological Society, and the College Music Society.
Research, Presentations, and Publications:
Mr. Cox has presented papers at regional meetings of the American
Musicological Society and the College Music Society; the West Coast Conference
on Music Theory and Analysis (1997); at national meetings of the College
Music Society (1997 and 1998) and the Society for Music Theory (1998,
1999, 2000, and 2001); and at the 6th International Conference on Music
Perception and Cognition in Keele, England (2000). Mr. Coxs paper,
"Imagined Meaning in Immediate and Reflective Musical Experience,"
appears in Music Perception 16/4 (Summer 1999). His paper, "The Mimetic
Hypothesis and Embodied Musical Meaning," appears in Musicae Scientiae
5/2 (Fall 2001).
