D. Bennett Education Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Master of Arts in Music Education, Ball State University; Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education, University of North Texas Honors
Teaching Background: Prior to joining the Oberlin faculty in 2001, Bennett was Professor of Music and Director of Music Education at Texas Christian University for four years, Professor of Music and Director of Music Education at the University of Texas at Arlington for 15 years, Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas for two years, and Associate Faculty at Indiana-Purdue University-Ft. Wayne for three years. Bennett has always been committed to maintaining her work with children as she prepared teachers. In Fort Worth, Bennett and her students taught a second grade class once a week; in Arlington, Bennett worked with various grade levels at a private school to videotape teaching for methods classes; and in Bozeman, MT, she taught preschool children for a semester. In Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bennett was an elementary music teacher for grades K-6 for six years. Demonstration classes of children are a hallmark of Bennetts many workshops and courses for teachers, including three summer courses in Japan for teachers of English.
