Conservatory Faculty Chamber Series Concert to be Broadcast on WCLV Friday, Oct. 26

Erich Lessing/Art Resource, NY

WCLV, Cleveland’s classical music radio station—found on your FM dial at 104.9 and on the web at www.wclv.com—will broadcast Oberlin’s Faculty Chamber Series concert featuring Professor of Oboe Alex Klein and other great musicians from the Conservatory’s faculty.

The concert, which was recorded live in Warner Concert Hall on September 15, 2007, will be heard on Friday, October 26, at 8 p.m.

The program is a veritable celebration of the oboe, and showcases Klein’s remarkable talents on four variations of the instrument. He is joined by Associate Professor of Harpsichord Webb Wiggins and guest artist Catalina Guevara Klein, on Giuseppe Sammartini's Sonata in G Major, Op. 13, No. 4 for Baroque Oboe and Continuo. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Quartet for Classical Oboe and Strings follows, with Klein on oboe; Professor of Violin Marilyn McDonald on violin, Professor of Viola Peter Slowik on viola, and Steuart Pincombe ‘09 on cello. Guest artist Rita Costanzi played the harp to Klein’s English horn for Antonino Pasculli's Homage à Bellini for English Horn and Harp. The radio broadcast will conclude with Robert Schumann's Fantasy Pieces, Op. 73, for Clarinet (oboe d'amore) and Piano, featuring Klein on oboe d'amore with pianist Peter Takács, Professor of Piano.

The Riverside Company, a leading private equity firm specializing in premier companies, sponsors this broadcast on WCLV of music from Oberlin. The next Riverside-sponsored WCLV presentation of music from Oberlin will be a live broadcast on Friday, November 2, at 8:30 p.m. Listeners will hear, live from Finney Chapel, a concert celebrating the inauguration of Marvin Krislov as Oberlin College’s 14th president.
