These readers of Oberlin Conservatory were the first three to correctly guess the composition from the fragment that appears at the masthead of the magazine’s front cover:
- Matthew Gin, a double-degree sophomore from San Francisco, California
- Marsha Perry Juday ’75 from Bradenton, Florida
- Kenneth Seitz ’63 of Woburn, Massachusetts.
Their acuity in discerning that the excerpt referred to the 2nd movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 earned each of them a brand new compact disc recording on the brand new Oberlin Label. They will receive Bridget-Michaele Reischl conducting the Oberlin Orchestra in China, recorded live at the Poly Theater in Beijing.
When notified that she was a winner, Marsha wrote: “Wow! I guess all those ear-training classes with Mr. Melcher paid off!”
Yes, Marsha, indeed they did.
Our thanks to all of you who played the quiz.
