Olivier Latry, one of the world’s most distinguished organists and titular organist of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris, will perform works by Séjan, Franck, Gigout, Vierne, Langlais, Duruflé, Messiaen, and Eschaich, and will conclude the evening with his own piece, Improvisation, as part of Oberlin’s Artist Recital Series on Wednesday, April 13, at 8 p.m. in Finney Chapel.

Reserved seat tickets are still available and are $7 dollars for students, $16 for seniors and those with an Oberlin College I.D. (faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and area educators), and $20 for the general public. Tickets purchased at the door the night of the concert are an additional $3. Please call Oberlin’s Central Ticket Service at 440-775-8169 for more information.

With recordings and performances in more than 40 countries on five continents, Latry is renowned throughout the international community. The New York Times calls him a “brilliant instrumentalist” whose playing is “splendidly clear, steady, and buoyant.”

When Latry concludes the evening with his own improvisational piece, the audience will have experienced a special treat, since Latry is counted among the most noted improvisateurs in an exceptional French tradition that includes Charles Tournemire and Pierre Cochereau.

On Tuesday, April 12, Latry will conduct a master class for Conservatory students at 6 p.m. in Finney Chapel.

Latry will conjure up his musical magic on the Kay Africa Memorial Organ, Oberlin’s 76-rank, 4,014-pipe organ. Designed and constructed by C.B. Fisk, Inc., acclaimed organ builders of Gloucester, Massashusetts, the instrument is a three-manual French romantic organ based on the symphonic style of the great French organ builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, who was known for creating a vast tonal palette.
