Danenberg Honors Recital Showcases Top Conservatory Talent


Five outstanding Conservatory students will present a recital of classical works as well as an original student composition in the Danenberg Honors Recital at Finney Chapel on Tuesday, April 19th, at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Featured in this year's recital are are pianist Anastasia Dedik AD '05, soprano Meagan Brus '05, harpist Sarah Oliver '06, clarinetist Boris Allakhverdyan '08, and composer Timothy F. Rosser '06.

Dedik, a graduate of the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia and a winner of Oberlin's 2004 Concerto competition, is an Artist Diploma student studying with Professor of Pianoforte Sedmara Z. Rutstein. She will perform Mephisto Waltz by Franz Liszt.

Brus, who studies voice with Professor of Singing Daune Mahy, will offer her interpretation of Alte Weisen (Acht Lieder) by Hans Pfitzner, accompanied by Karen Piranian. Brus has performed in several Oberlin Opera Theater productions, including last fall's Orpheus in the Underworld, in which she played the role of Diana.

Oliver has served as principal harpist for the St. Paul Lutheran Concert Orchestra and is pursuing a career in harp performance. She currently studies with Assistant Professor of Harp Yolanda Kondonassis, and will perform Scintillation by Carlos Salzedo.

Allakhverdyan, a student of Assistant Professor of Clarinet Richard Hawkins will perform Sonata for Clarinet by Edison Denisov. Allakhverdyan has participated in many competitions and festivals, including the Musical Kremlin Festival, held in Moscow in 2003.

Rosser's composition, Plateaus, will be performed by a nine-piece ensemble. At Oberlin, Rosser studies with Assistant Professor of Composition Amelia Kaplan and Professor of Piano Monique Duphil.

The Danenberg Honors Recital is named in memory of Emil Danenberg, President of Oberlin College from 1975 to 1981.
