Still
glowing from their Carnegie Hall debut last March, where they gave
the world premiere of Split Horizon by David Schober '97, eighth
blackbird returns to Oberlin as part of the 125th anniversary season
of the Artist Recital Series.
The group will perform works by Chen Yi, Gordon Fitzell, Jacob Druckman,
Roshanne Etezady, Steven Mackey,
Joan Tower, Kazuo Fukushima, and Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez Saturday,
April 10, at 8 p.m. in Finney Chapel.
Reserved seat tickets for the concert are priced from $10 to $20 and are available
by calling Oberlin's Central Ticket Service box office at (440) 775-8169.
In the relatively brief span of time since the sextet was formed at the Conservatory
in 1996, the group has earned numerous awards–including the prestigious
Naumburg Chamber Music Award and the Concert Artist Guild International Competition–as
well as a stream of rave reviews and a reputation as one of the world's
premier new music groups.
The members of eighth blackbird are flutist Molly Alicia Barth '97, clarinetist
Michael J. Maccaferri '95, violinist Matt Albert '96, cellist Nicholas
Photinos '96, percussionist Matthew L. Duvall '95, and pianist Lisa
Kaplan '96.
Their burgeoning scrapbook includes a recent profile on NPR's All Things
Considered.
