Ui-Youn Hong '07, who last September won third prize in the junior division of the prestigious Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition for Young Violinists, brought home another award in February: second place in the string division of the Corpus Christi International Competition for Piano and Strings, held at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. She played Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D-Minor in the finals round, and, for her interpretation of the Bach Sonata No. 3 ("Fugue"), she received the Howard Beebe String Award for Solo Bach Performance.

Atar Arad, Stephen Clapp, and Norman Fischer served as judges for the string division.

Ui-Youn told a reporter for the Corpus Christi Caller Times that she missed her parents and intended to return to Korea soon for a visit. “It's my mom's birthday, and this will be a good present,” she said.
