The Toronto Star writes that the Gryphon Trio, hailed as one of Canada's finest chamber ensembles, is approaching “national treasure status.” On Thursday, March 11 at 8 p.m. in Finney Chapel, pianist Jamie Parker, violinist Annalee Patipatanakoon, and cellist Roman Borys will present Beethoven's Piano Trio in C Minor, op. 1, no. 3 ; Christos Hatzis's Old Photographs ; and Mendelssohn's Piano Trio in C Minor, op. 66. Their Mendelssohn, released in 2002 on the Analekta label, is destined, writes Le Devoir , “to become an indispensable reference.” In September 2000, the Gryphon Trio was awarded the use of two rare instruments from the Canada Council for the Arts Musical Instrument Bank: a 1717 Windsor Weinstein Stradivari violin played by Patipatanakoon and an 1824 McConnell-Gagliano cello played by Borys. Advance reserved seat tickets, priced from $7 to $20, are available by calling the Central Ticket Service box office at 440-775-8169. Tickets purchased at the door are an additional $3. The Gryphon Trio appears at Oberlin under the auspices of the Artist Recital Series with the support of the Friends of the Artist Recital Series. Media sponsorship is provided by Cleveland radio stations WCLV-104.9 FM and WCPN-90.3 ideastream (with WVIZ-TV25) and Northern Ohio Live magazine.
