Cleveland Play House to Showcase Conservatory Piano Students

by Marci Janas '91

Piano students from the Conservatory will be giving their regards to Euclid when they present pre-curtain performances at the Cleveland Play House in September and October.

Michael Bukhman '05, a student of Professor of Piano Robert Shannon, and Andrea Fan '04, who studies with Professor of Piano Monique Duphil, will perform on a Steinway grand piano in the lobby of the Bolton Theatre on Tuesday, Sept. 30, beginning at 7:15 p.m. Their performance fittingly precedes the production of 2 Pianos 4 Hands, a "play with music” that celebrates the talent and dedication of those brave souls wishing and working to become professional musicians.

The Oberlin students will take turns playing selections from Beethoven, Debussy, Schubert, and Scarlatti until 10 minutes before the 8 p.m. curtain.

John Lee '05, who also studies with Shannon, will perform Thursday, Oct. 2, from 7:15 to 7:50 p.m. Laura Villafranca '04, a student of Associate Professor of Piano Angela Cheng, will perform Wednesday, Oct. 15, prior to the 8 p.m. curtain.

The Cleveland Play House is located at 8500 Euclid Avenue.

The play, by Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt, tells the story of Ted and Richard and their lifelong ambition to be professional pianists. It runs until Oct. 19. For more information, please call the Cleveland Play House at 216-795-7000.
