and May are abloom with music from Oberlin on WCLV-104.9 FM.
The vernal activity began with
a live broadcast on April 10 of Haydn's Seven Last Words of Christ, performed
by the Vermeer String Quartet
in Finney Chapel. From the Top
from Oberlin, also recorded in Finney in January, and aired Sunday, April
20. A repeat performance will be aired Saturday, April 26, at 6 p.m.,
and Saturday, May 3, at 9 p.m. On Wednesday, April 23, at 10 p.m., A.
Grace Lee Mims, host of WCLV's The Black Arts, will devote a program
to the music and career of Denyce Graves '84.

WCLV will broadcast performances by the Oberlin Orchestra, conducted by
Associate Professor of Conducting Steven
Smith with pianist and Concerto Competition winner Daniela
Flonta '03. The concert, which features Beethoven's Piano Concerto
No. 5 Op. 73 in E-flat Major ("Emperor"), Lutoslawski's
Symphonic Variations and Ravel's Rhapsodie Espagnole, was recorded
in Finney Chapel on February 28. Also featured on the broadcast is the
Oberlin College Choir, prepared by Assistant Professor of Choral Conducting
Hugh Floyd, in Debussy's Nocturnes.

A concert by cellist Janos Starker, recorded in Finney
Chapel in February 2002. Pianist Shigeo Neriki accompanied Starker in
a program featuring Beethoven's Cello Sonato no. 2 in G Minor, op.
5; Prokofiev's Sonata in C Major, op. 119; and Brahms' Sonata
no. 2 in F Major, op. 99.

10 p.m.
In honor of his birthday on May 11, A. Grace Lee Mims dedicates a program
to the music of composer William Grant Still (1895-1978). Still attended
Oberlin from 1916 to 1919 and received an honorary doctor of music degree
in 1947.

p.m.
WCLV will broadcast performances by the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra, conducted
by Steven Smith with violinist and Concerto Competition winner Julia Sakharova
'03. The concert, which will be recorded in Finney Chapel on Friday, April
25, features Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, Schoenberg's Kammersymphonie
no. 2, op. 38, and Beethoven's Symphony no. 2, op. 36, in D
Major.
