Spano and ASO Take Grammy Triple-Crown

by Marci Janas '91

Professor of Conducting Robert Spano ’83, music director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO), won all three awards for which he and the ensemble were nominated last night (Sunday, February 23) when the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences handed out the Grammy awards for best classical album, best choral performance, and best engineered classical album.

Spano conducted the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus to the Grammy triple-crown with its recording of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony for Telarc Records, currently featured in the Conservatory’s Listening Room.

Allison Vulgamore ’80, a member of the Oberlin College Board of Trustees, is president of the ASO; her husband, Peter Marshall '77, is the orchestra's principal keyboardist.
