Acclaimed Violinist Hilary Hahn to Perform Nov. 22

Natalie Zhu has performed in North America, Europe and China as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. She has appeared with the Pacific Symphony, Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Astral Chamber Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic, and the Colorado Philharmonic National Repertory Orchestra in the United States. Her European debut came in 1994 at the Festival de Sully et d'Orleans in France. Most recently Ms. Zhu performed in Steinway Hall, New York, and made her Philadelphia debut recital; she has toured Holland, Germany and France, and in November 1999 embarked on a six-week recital tour with violinist Hilary Hahn.
Ms. Zhu has won numerous awards including a top prize in the 1994 China International Piano Competition in Beijing; grand prize in the Young Keyboard Artists Association Competition; the Concert Series Award and first prize in the Johanna Hodges Piano Concerto Competition. An active chamber musician, she spent the summers of 1997, 1998 and 1999 as a participant at the Marlboro Music Festival. Ms. Zhu was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Festival in the summer of 2000.
Natalie Zhu, who began her piano studies at age six, made her first public appearance at age nine. At age 15, Ms. Zhu enrolled at The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia to study with world-renowned pianist Gary Graffman. She graduated from Curtis in 1997, and received the Rachmaninoff Award. She continues her studies with Claude Frank at Yale University, where she completed her master's degree in 2000 and Artist's Diploma in May 2001, and received The Elizabeth Parisot Prize as an outstanding pianist in the School of Music.
Since 1998, Natalie Zhu has been affiliated with Astral Artistic Services, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit agency assisting the country's most promising emerging classical musicians.
