Back to the main story |
Violinist Eric Wyrick Eric Wyrick, an Orpheus member since 1988, began studying the violin when he was 4 years old. He entered the Julliard Pre-College program to study with Dorothy DeLay at the age of 6, and he held his first professional orchestral position, with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, when he was 14. Wyrick is currently concertmaster of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, with which he will perform Vivaldi's Four Seasons in November 2002. Wyrick has enjoyed an eclectic career; he has been artistic personnel coordinator and frequent leader of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and concertmaster with the American Symphony Orchestra, the Bard Festival Orchestra, L'Opera Francais New York, and EOS Music. An active chamber musician, Wyrick can be heard frequently with the NJSO Chamber Players. He has made solo television appearances in the American Playhouse production of Andre's Mother and Dance in America's presentation of Chausson's Poème for American Ballet Theater. He appeared as a featured soloist with Orpheus, playing Mozart's Concerto K.219, in the BBC's Great Composers Series, broadcast on PBS. In addition to his annual NJSO
solo appearances, Wyrick has performed as soloist with Danish Radio Orchestra,
the Orchestre de Toulouse, EOS Music, the Hudson Valley Philharmonic,
and the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra. In November 1998, Wyrick became
one the first Americans to perform in the Hanoi Opera House in more than
30 years when he performed Saint-Saens's Rondo Cappricioso with
Orpheus. He has recorded for Bridge Records, Vanguard, and, with Orpheus,
has made numerous CDs for Deutsche Grammophon. |
