Composer Jeffrey Mumford's "Good Dial Days" on WCLV

by Marci Janas '91

To celebrate its 40 years in broadcasting, WCLV-104.9 FM, Cleveland's classical music radio station, has commissioned an original fanfare by Assistant Professor of Composition Jeffrey Mumford.

Fanfare (good dial days) We Celebrate Luminous Voices, is scored for winds, brass, and timpani, and was recorded by an Oberlin ensemble conducted by Associate Professor of Wind Conducting Timothy Weiss. Mumford composed a 60-second version of the work and a 90-second version; one or the other can be heard on the station three times a day through the end of September. This kind of exposure, says WCLV President and Broadcast Manager Robert Conrad, "probably makes it one of the most played pieces of contemporary serious music in American radio."

After September, WCLV will use the music as background for promotional announcements concerning the station's anniversary activities and broadcasts.
