by Marci Janas '91

The Oberlin Conservatory of Music’s first live WCLV broadcast of the 2002-2003 season takes place Sunday, September 22, at 8:00 p.m. with Associate Professor of Conducting and Director of the Oberlin Conservatory Orchestras Steven Smith making his Oberlin podium debut.

Smith, who is assistant conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra, will conduct the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra in a program featuring Aaron Copland’s Three Latin-American Sketches, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 39, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with Peter Takács, professor of pianoforte, as soloist.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, takes place in Warner Concert Hall.

WCLV, Cleveland’s classical music radio station, is found on the dial at 104.9-FM. The live broadcast--the first of several that the station plans to air this season--will be simulcast on the station’s website.
