The
Chimera Trio, a group comprised of Scott Forth (percussion, DD '02), Wendy
Richman (viola, Con '01), and Nuiko Wadden (harp, Con '02), will perform
works of student composers in Peters Hall at 8 PM on Saturday, December
8. omni--a collaborative arts event is the product of an alliance
of student performers, composers, visual artists, dancers, and writers.
In an effort to unite the arts communities of the Oberlin campus, several
musical works have been paired with video and dance pieces for concurrent
performance in the Great Hall of Peters. In addition, since some musical
compositions will be played without visuals, Peters will become home to
student art installations, which guests will be free to view throughout
the event.
"Our goal in this project is to bring contemporary music to a wider,
more diverse audience than its usual following," says Wadden. "We're
approaching this more like a celebration and less like a traditional performance."
Richman agrees. "Ideally, we'd like it to be an event where everyone
is comfortable, without feeling stifled by the formality of a conventional
arts event." A culinary component will complete the pan-sensory experience.
"During the planning stages, we decided that food and drink would
be an important part of the less formal atmosphere we wanted to create,"
explains Forth.
This event is generously supported by the Dean of Students, the Deans
of the Conservatory, the Art Department, the Conservatory Council of Students,
and the Student Finance Committee. It is free and open to the public.
