Soprano Tony Arnold hails from Baltimore, where her early musical training included piano, woodwind, and composition studies at the Peabody Preparatory Institute and the Maryland Center for the Arts. She received her bachelor's degree in voice from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 1990, and a master's degree in orchestral conducting from Northwestern University in 1993. Arnold is devoted to the performance of contemporary works. She has sung with eighth blackbird, the Cincinnati Symphony Chamber Players, The Furious Band, the Chicago Contemporary Players, the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, Ars Viva, Duo Atipica, the Ad Hoc String Quartet, and the Contemporary Ensembles of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Princeton University, Northwestern University, and the University of Chicago. Collaborative pianists have included Jacob Greenberg, Diana Schmuck, and Robert Spano. Arnold has many premieres to her credit, among them works by composers Claudio Spies, Julia Miller, Yuri Falik, Jean Milew, Pauline Oliveros, Peter Askim, and Don Womack. Her diverse musical background includes music directorships with the University of Chicago Chamber Orchestra and the Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra. She has received fellowships to the Aspen Music Festival, as a conductor and as a vocalist. Future collaborations will include Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire with members of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and a new work with eighth blackbird. |
