This is what Neal Creque's daughter, Kim, told Plain Dealer reporter Afi-Odelia E. Scruggs in a tribute that ran in the December 5 edition of the PD. Today, that musical life will be honored in a noon concert in Finney Chapel. Featured performers include Creque's colleagues on the Oberlin jazz faculty, Oberlin graduates, and other friends. Wendell Logan, professor of African-American music and chair of the jazz studies program, organized the concert with others on the jazz faculty. The program will include Cleveland vocalist Ki Aalen performing with Robert Ferazza, teacher of jazz guitar, and Peter Dominguez, professor of jazz studies and double bass. Two of the returning alumni who will perform are Bernie Pelsmajer '99 of Cleveland Heights and Kevin Louis '99 of New Orleans. Howie Smith, a faculty member of Cleveland State University, will also appear on the program. Creque died Friday, December 1. (Earlier reports set his date of death at Thursday, November 30.)
