"A Bassoon Christmas" Brightens Up the Oberlin Conservatory Lounge Dec. 14

By Charity Johnson ('99)

Bassoons of Christmas Past....

The Oberlin Conservatory of Music celebrates a time-honored tradition -- and gets into the holiday spirit -- with the joyful sounds of bassoonists playing Christmas favorites at the annual "Bassoon Christmas," Thursday, Dec. 14, at 12:30 P.M. in the Conservatory lounge.

Eleven bassoonists and one harpist will play selections from Tchaikowsky's Nutcracker Suite, bassoon ensemble works, and traditional Christmas carols. The performance will also include a sing-along, and candy canes will be served.

"The humorous music is my favorite part of the 'Bassoon Christmas'." says George Sakakeeny, associate professor of bassoon. "The sing-along will include our own version of the unofficial Oberlin school song!"

What is the unofficial Oberlin school song? You'll have to come and sing along to find out.
