Pran - World Music Duo - Will Offer "Raga: Miyan Ki Malhar - a raga for the rainy season,"
Wednesday, 11 P.M., Warner Main Space

by Linda Shockley

It seems only fitting that Pran - the world music duo of Greg Powers (trombone) and Stuart Dempster (didjeridu) will perform "Raga: Miyan Ki Malhar - a raga for the rainy season" as yet another snowstorm blows through town.

Wednesday's performance is one permutation of a week-long New Music residency with professor of composition Pauline Oliveros's Deep Listening Band. (The Deep Listening Band with Oliveros will perform Sunday at the Cat in two sets: 6 P.M. and 8 P.M.).

"Raga: Miyan Ki Malhar - a raga for the rainy season" has been described as a blending of trombone and didjeridu with the traditional north Indian musical style of Dhrupad. Greg Powers develops raga on trombone while world renowned Stuart Dempster provides the drone on his brass didjeridu.
