ocmailbasicsOCMail - Make the Move Now! [15Oct08]

OCMailSignUpEveryone - faculty, staff (union and non-union), students, retired account holders, departmental and student organizations, special accounts- MUST be converted to the new OCMail e-mail system by the start of Fall Break, 18 October 2008.

As you may recall, we were at a decision point regarding our e-mail system: upgrade or outsource. For various factors, outlined in a memo from John Bucher, Chief Technology Officer and Director of Information Technology at Oberlin College, submitted to the college community in March 2008, the decision was made to outsource to Google.

07 July is the date when the system became available to all college personnel (faculty, staff, and all students). Everyone must be moved over to the new system by fall break in October 2008, so you'll have to sign up by then in order to continue having a functional Oberlin College e-mail account. Also, once you sign up, you'll need to move your mail from the old system to the new one if your desire to retain any existing mail messages. Again, this must be accomplished prior to the start of Fall Break.

Note: Persons forwarding mail to another account will need to access their new OCMail accounts after they sign up and re-enter the forwarding address. Also note, with OCMail, only one forwarding address may be entered.

Training: CIT will hold training sessions to assist people with moving to the new system. Sessions times are posted on the Online Sign-Up Form.

OCMailOverviewClick on the box at the left for the OCMail overview/training document being presented in the OCMail Overview sessions.

Prior to signing up for your OCMail account (for existing accounts only), you may want to clean up old mail, getting rid of messages you no longer need or want. Now would also be a good time to set up password-recovery questions for your ObieID account, if you have not already done so.

After you sign up, you'll be able to move all your old mail, and move or export existing address books. Your e-mail address will even stay the same! Please read the full story for all the details.Full Story Logo

If you think messages that do are "phishy", you are right to be suspicious, and we thank you for not replying to the message. Unfortunately, there is little we can do in advance to block attempts like this, so please, remain vigilant! When in doubt, call the CIT Help Desk (ext 58197) or e-mail us. Please read from the following links for more information:
