James Kalyn has broad musical experience as a saxophone soloist, orchestral clarinetist, conductor and teacher.

Fluent in traditional and contemporary classical music styles, as well as in jazz and theatre music, Kalyn's flexibility as a performer, conductor, and educator enables him to enjoy a diverse career. Currently, he is a member of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and RED (an orchestra) in Cleveland and performs with many groups as a freelance musician.

Kalyn is also the conductor of the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra Philharmonia. He has an active interest in China and serves as Program Director for a relationship between the Oberlin Conservatory and the Forren School of Music in Beijing.
